Happy Birthday Dada!

Today is John's (dada's) birthday and Nolan triumphantly sang him birthday wishes tonight as we gave him his birthday vegan cupcake, a specialty of new favorite local restaurant, Honeypie. Nolan was afraid of the happy birthday song before, so it's nice to actually hear him sing it. We have done so much traveling lately, John preferred to have his birthday be mellow (with party later of course). So we treated him to his favorite Indian restaurant and relieved him of his usual responsibility, to cook us an Indian style meal. The waiters were as always very sweet on Nolan and pleased to see a toddler boy eating such delicious aromatic and slightly spicy foods. They high fived him and to my surprise Nolan was hardy shy at all. They gave him some mango ice cream as a treat, but Nolan was so full of mango lassi that he just ate a little. It's so cute to hear him pronouncing all the foods, from the lassi to pappadam to fennel seed. He finally used the bathroom for me in a restaurant, a huge deal this late in his potty training. For some reason foreign food is fine, but not foreign potties.

But back to John's birthday, we've had a good one, with more festivities to come.
