a train a day

We just back from San Francisco, which in some ways was a perfect vacation spot for a train loving toddler. The hotel for my conference was next to the turntable for the cable cars and the beginning of the F trolley. Nolan handled the excitement of the trip well considering we were trying to do all we could in such a great city. He did say daily, "I want to go home" which meant the hotel actually. When we got home to Milwaukee, he then said, "I want to go back to the hotel!" Still being contrary.


While waiting for the cable car, Nolan entertained himself well, creating tunnels and travels for his toy streetcar.





We were grateful to the San Francisco public transportation system for providing Nolan with ample time to sleep. We rode the buses and streetcars to many different neighborhoods, Mission, Haight and Richmond. The first day we thought we'd take him back to the hotel for his nap, but of course he fell asleep on the way. For the rest of the trip it just seemed more efficient to take a long ride so he would sleep. This did mean that he was resting on my chest a lot, and just tonight he was looking at the pictures and said he wanted to sleep on my chest again and curled up in my lap.
