and then the planes...

For such a great trip, we did spend a lot of time in airports and on planes. Thankfully, Nolan is accustomed to flying and was a very good boy. Aside from getting a little hyper on the longer flight from middle America to the coast he was an angel, albeit still an exhausting angel. For the flight back he got to watch Curious George shows, a DVD he helped me pick out at Amoeba records in the Haight.

One of the more curious things of the trip for us was Nolan's affection for his stuffed dog. (Yes it is the one he got from Uncle Edwin and Aunt Karen for Christmas a while back.) It usually is in his bed at home and we bring it on trips as a familiar object, but he had never showered sooo much affection on it until this trip. I think it was the fact that he finally gave it a name, Thirsty. He then wanted to carry Thirsty on the flight back home and had many pretend conversations with his dog. He knows you need a ticket to fly, and each time gave his boarding pass and held onto his stub. To my surprise, he even read off his seat "9C" and tried to look for the number.

Flying Midwest, you always get chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the airplane oven. Nolan has a special way of eating his in flight cookies, dipping his fingers in the still melted chips and licking it off his fingers. He then eventually dives in and munches the whole cookie.

As we finished our first leg home, Nolan actually fell asleep on the descent. He needed a longer nap of course, so we got him into the stroller. He usually can't sleep in this stroller because he head flops forward, but propping it up was perfect. Once home, he didn't fall asleep until 11:30 PM since he had adjusted on his own to San Francisco time, and John struggled to get him awake by 10 the next morning. He's pretty close to his usual Milwaukee hours though now.
