foreign playgrounds

Vacationing in a big city with a toddler means that you look for playgrounds. We found a great one in the Mission neighborhood that was definitely old school... I feared for my own safety with the lack of railings and how high you could climb. Nolan of course made friends with a 3 year old girl wearing fairy wings and they wanted to run all over the place. Thankfully Nolan is a cautious boy and actually wanted me close behind, where I would have been anyway keeping him away from the gaps. The best playground was in the Golden Gate park with a hill made into a slide! It was a steep climb when we got close to the top, and we then got to ride down the concrete slide sitting on a piece of cardboard. Nolan later ran around grooving to the drumming circle playing the whole time at the park. There was a lot of street music that he loved, from harmonicas to high school marching bands.

It was Nolan's idea to put the menu on his head. It's a great way to remember the Lucky Creation Vegetarian restaurant in Chinatown.

I wish I could remember the name of this ice cream parlor. It specialized in vanilla ice cream with varieties from Mexico to Madagascar. It was in the Mission... Nolan enjoyed it but he couldn't eat it fast enough so of course needed help.

I don't know if Nolan really grasped the purpose of the cables, but he loved the cable car museum and wanted to go back every day. We tried to explain it anyways, but I think he wanted to go back more because of the gift shop and multiple cable cars on display.
