today we went to visit the rather other-worldly domes. it's a strange name for a botanical garden, but appropriate. i had heard people talking about "the domes" and wondered what this place was. it turns out to be a wonderful place to visit on a cold wintery day.
there's the arid room...

and there's the tropical room. there was also an exhibit dome all decked out with Christmas trees. i imagine we'll be back rather often this season to soak up the humidity at least of the tropical room. the arid room was mostly full of thorny spiny cacti. there were chocolate trees... we'll have to go back when the fruit is ripe. also, there were banana trees so i'm sure that Nolan will someday appreciate knowing where his currently favorite fruit comes from.
