vignettes

John informed me that he was playing an instrumental song and Nolan said, "They're not singing!" I may have inadvertently rubbed off on Nolan because so often minutes into an instrumental piece I usually say without realizing it, "When are they going to start singing?" I guess instrumentals don't always satisfy us.

Nolan has been volunteering more information about his future plans in the past few days. We were reading a book about rescue workers and I told him his Grandpa used to be a fireman. Nolan said, "I wanna be a fireman someday!" Then later as I was checking the mail there was a newsletter from SOCM (Save Our Cumberland Mountains) with a picture of Grandpa at the board meeting. So of course I showed it to Nolan and of course Nolan asked why Grandpa was in the newspaper. I told him he was protecting the mountains, so then Nolan said, "I wanna protect the mountains someday!" So begins the long journey to figuring out what he wants to do...

After teaching Nolan today what bald meant when he kept asking why his toy man had no hair, I then had the difficult task of explaining why his grandpa was bald. Nolan did not say that he wanted to be bald someday however.
