a break from winter

Each year we've gone to Florida to see John's parents, and of course since moving to Milwaukee it's taken on a whole new meaning with a little boy to entertain and for all of us a chance to take off our winter coat and hat and snow boots, et cetera. We did go to the beach a couple times, and we had so much fun I was too distracted to take any pictures but this! Nolan misses his sandbox so having a huge beach to dig in was thrilling. He busied himself with the sand and the playgrounds there, but was not too interesting in going near the water. As I went close to get a bucket full of water for sturdier sand castles, Nolan pleaded, "Don't! Don't go near the water!" It was too cold for anyone to swim in, but apparently was still too overwhelming for Nolan! It was warm enough some of the time to merit shorts and a tee shirt, but Nolan would have nothing to do with that. Every morning he insisted on long pants, a sweat shirt and socks! A couple times I was able to get a tee shirt under that sweat shirt. He's so used to layering, he must not even remember otherwise. Although, you still need layers in the summer here in my opinion.
