Nolan's Aunt Emily happens to be a zookeeper, which has to feed in to Nolan's imagination quite a bit. Emily takes care of the monkeys and meerkats, but she got Nolan the opportunity to feed a 20 foot tall giraffe named Congo. We got to walk behind the scenes of the zoo, got a closer view of the elephants and an extremely close up view of the giraffes. He didn't want to do the actual feeding but wanted to be in the arms of everyone who did. He usually says that his favorite is the giraffe and now he's been almost licked by one! (Everyone else got licked.)

After that adventure, we went to the playground within the zoo. We could have spent hours there! It had towers that had maze like stairways to the top and a slide at least 20 feet tall that we went down together. It was a spiraling tunnel slide and actually got dark in the middle and Nolan loved it! You really had to stay a few feet behind your child or you might lose them in all the complicated turns within the tower. It was a much needed rumpus for Nolan, and apparently Uncle Collin, too, who showed Nolan how to traverse the net. We will have to make more and more zoo time for future trips!
