The weather's been really nice lately and we've been outside almost constantly. It must be some instinctual drive for vitamin D. Nolan's fallen in love with the sandbox that came with the house, complete with blue sand. He recently closely watched a 4 year old friend of his play with construction machine toys in the dirt and Nolan has whole heartedly applied said techniques to his sand toys. He can really entertain himself forever there. He had to be drug away for his nap and when he woke up, without skipping a beat, he was right back out there shoveling and dumping.
The zoo is always a hit, and for once I was able to convince Nolan that one ride on the zoo train was enough without any protest. His focus turned from the train to the "popcorn wagon" nearby. This has become some kind of expectation on a trip to the zoo. He actually gobbled up more than half of the container on his own. He likes to people watch, and here he has his back turned to the lion (behind glass) and is watching other kids observe the lion.
I'm afraid that one chapter of parenting has happened too soon... Nolan is starting to favor friends over his parents. It used to be difficult to get him to leave friend's homes, but it seemed to be mainly about their toys. Now several times I have had to coax him with all my powers and he still may leave kicking and flailing saying, " I wanna stay and play with _____!" Tonight at one friends house he pronounced that he wanted to sleep over and ran to his friend's bed, which of course made for quite the cute rumpus jumping and squealing on the bed. He really was disappointed he couldn't stay. Nolan is a really social boy, so I guess as parents we'll just enjoy as long as we can being slightly more important than anyone else.
