madison/anniversary trip

Madison is less than an hour and a half away, but we didn't go until this past weekend. it was in celebration of our 6th wedding anniversary and Nolan was excited to come along and help celebrate. our first dinner was at a Nepali/Tibetan/Indian restaurant. it rained the whole weekend (it rained hard... there were flood conditions everywhere and fantastic lightning shows). so Nolan got his first wet-hair mohawk. his hair is so fine, the do may have benefitted from some egg whites or hair spray. as usual on a vacation, Nolan found everything more exciting than eating and loved going up the steps in the restaurant. of note, lately he has preferred sitting in my lap to eat but if he can sit in a regular chair, that's even better. no booster seat though, and definitely NO high chair if we're out to eat.

Ella's Deli made the whole trip. really. this place is amazing with whirley-gigs and carousels and a huge menu of ice cream sundaes. you're supposed to wait to be seated, but as i was looking up at everything hanging from the ceiling Nolan took off. thank goodness there was a train in our table, otherwise i don't think i could've kept him seated even to eat ice cream!

we all had a good time, Nolan was an excellent sleeper in the hotel room with us even though he popped out a new tooth much to my surprise. now that we've fully explored the city i'm sure we'll be going back for a day trip or two.
