on our Madison trip, we found the best toy store i've seen since the Big Much in Chattanooga. Capitol Kids had exactly the toy i had been thinking about getting Nolan for a while, a parking garage. it sounds ridiculous and only a city kid would understand what a parking garage is... but i thought he would enjoy the ramps for rolling his cars around. my mom noticed when she was here that Nolan has a lot of toys, especially toy cars... i think the issue is how much fun i have playing with him and his toys. i try to restrain myself, but the parking garage is a big hit!
Nolan was so tired one night, he wanted to get up in the crib full of stuffed animals and blankets. he kept snuggling in and pulled the blanket over him. when i offered to read him his book there, he happily laid down through several.
John & i had an official date night on our anniversary (a Monday of all days) and Nolan got to pack his bag up with toys (he packed it full) to go over to Giya's for dinner and play. he was pretty mellow since it was the first time he had done it, and when we showed back up he went into wild mode. he must've enjoyed it, because into the week he was still packing his bag with toys and taking off.
Nolan has learned to say no, vigorously. he started saying it for the first time when he Grandma was here, and the quantity and enthusiasm has increased ever since. he just says it for the fun of it. "do you want some strawberries?" "no" (as he is wolfing them down). "do you want to brush your teeth?" "no" (as he obliges peacefully). he does use no appropriately... but it must be fun to say.
he is also getting more independent in his wardrobe choice. he prefers a certain pair of shoes and he loves to wear his corduroy coat. now that it's getting warm i'm going to have to hide that coat!

I love Nolan's hair. It's strangely identical to Elizabeth's. Long live the mullet.
