unswaddled mess

Nolan is getting bigger and squirmier. the quandary now is how to get him to sleep UNswaddled. he is getting too strong for the swaddling blanket but the times i've tried to get him to sleep without it he always bats himself in the face and then cries out for us. i'm trying a stepwise process here of making it looser each time... he wakes up every morning completely free of the blanket (or any really) but it's WHEN he wakes up that's key. sometimes he breaks loose at 1 or 2 AM and cries out... not because he's hungry... he's got plenty of cute baby blubber.

i have to give him a bath in the tub now since he's such a super splasher. he thinks it's hilarious when i take his rubber ducky, squeeze it and say "quack, quack." ah, baby jokes. he's got a great sense of humor. he's sitting up but of course balance is still an issue. when he falls over he's not crying though. he seems to be pretty adventuresome. when he stands he tries to put one foot in front of the other... he getting at least a bit of coordination. he's trying to put that effort into his legs to crawl, but he doesn't pick up his head so he's just burying himself into the floor.

hanging out with him over the weekend while John had things to do, all i heard from Nolan was "dadadadada." he used to say mama, but i think his dad has him brainwashed. now the only time i hear him even say "m" is pretty cute, he purses his lips and just goes "MMMMMMM" and seems to mean something urgent, although i'm not sure what all the time.

and now he has a jumper courtesy of Finley! he does a lot of talking and running in place in it. it's next to a floor length mirror and he keeps looking at me in the mirror... how a baby's mind deals with so much information i can't imagine!
