the caboose is last

Nolan got a wonderful book called Trains for his birthday that he has memorized, and on one page it says "the caboose is last." He'll say this anytime we see a caboose, which is twice now I believe, once in Wartrace and now in Chattanooga.

He's said and done some other cute things recently. A couple days ago I was watching Nolan run around the dining room table and he started barking, then he stopped in front of me panting, then he wanted to be picked up and he licked me on the cheek. I told him I'd rather be kissed and he obliged. I asked John if this was some kind of trick that he had taught Nolan, but he denies it and can't wait to see it himself.

I was on call last night and had to go to the hospital just before Nolan's bedtime, but he really didn't seem to mind. As I head to the door on my way to work he usually comes with me and says goodbye, but he didn't follow me this time and John told him to go and say good night. Instead he sat down at the table all happy and ready to draw and said "ha ha! bye bye!" I don't know what the ha ha was all about, but I saw a smirk on his face and felt a definite tease there that he got to play while I had to work... I'm sure he meant it in the nicest of ways.
