We've gotten Nolan new books and he has responded with a new enthusiasm for reading. A nice collection of old favorites, Curious George, classic Golden Books and P.D. Eastman. Really, his favorites at first were the Sesame Street books... when Nolan was sick with a horrible fever, we did everything to distract him from how miserable he was, including watching Wallace & Gromit and LOTS of Sesame Street. Once he was well and rambunctious again, he expected the same video diet... so one morning I declared we were going to the bookstore for Big Bird books. He remembered as we were on an errand to get him new mittens and started looking around the outdoor supply store for books... so he was thrilled when we finally got to our neighborhood bookstore and bought them out of Sesame Street books (only two were there... Elmo's ABCs and a book of opposites, both splendid.) He's even taken the books to bed with him, not really to read though. Just to hold.
Now one of the new stories is Put Me in the Zoo. The word "zoo" is on every page. John swears he can read it. Nolan will say, "z-o-o, zoo!" Is it reading or just repetition? John just wanted it down on the record that Nolan can "read."
