Nolan keeps proving to us that for the most part, he's a really social guy. he loves people, he even "reaches" out to random people walking by when we're in public (he's probably just exercising his arms). he loves it when we have people over by being extra talkative and active and then he usually just falls asleep in mid-sentence on my chest. we had our friends Steve & Shannon over this week along with Uncle Collin who was visiting. he was a bit fussy earlier but when the people arrived and we were all chatting, Nolan became the life of the party.
to talk about myself a moment, during our dinner on Tuesday a patient of mine was in labor. it ended up being an eventful labor and delivery so i was up all night, managed to get home at 7 AM to be re-united with Nolan but then off to work for the rest of the day. then while at work, i was informed another one of my patients was in labor. so after two successful deliveries in one day, i finally got home by 10 PM Wednesday... only to go back the next morning and i was then on call that day... so finally it's Friday and i'm home with about 18 hours of sleep since Monday.
the thing that amazed me about all this was how happy Nolan has been. John got to bring him to the office and the hospital to see me many times and each time Nolan was so sweet and ecstatic to see me. he's too young i guess to throw a fit over it all, but hopefully with all the visits and loving he gets he'll fell secure enough to know that he always has his mom and dad nearby. i grew up hearing about the children of doctors being deprived of their parent's love and time with the work demands, but i feel pretty confident that we can sufficiently smother Nolan with our love.
