fishy fun

i found these swell photos of Nolan with neighbor friend Benjamin at our local park on John's camera. i don't know what Nolan's doing with his ear but he doesn't seem to mind. Nolan can say "eye" quite well now, but his ear and nose phonetics need parental interpretation still. Benjamin came over with his parents this weekend and brought his favorite stuffed dog. Nolan fell in love with it and Benjamin didn't seem to mind, but when he came near Nolan's favorite stuffed dog (one he got from his Uncle Edwin and Aunt Karen) he got a little upset. he then walked around for a while with his favorite car of the moment, a bus from his grumpa, in one hand and the dog in the other... guarding them. this bus has been the comfort item for several days now as he goes to sleep. i'll find him with it cradled under his arm or with just a hand on it, as i carefully remove it for no nighttime mishaps.

we went to Discovery World today for the first time. i really wanted to show Nolan some fish. any fish he sees in a book he does a fishy mouth movement we taught him but he's only seen a home aquarium a couple times. this was a great experience with tunnels of fish and aquariums you could walk on top of. Nolan was exceedingly cautious as he stepped onto the glass over the aquarium. the view messes with your equilibrium a bit, and as he held my hands going across i think he enjoyed it. there was a fish you could touch, too, John thinks it was a carp and i think it was a sturgeon... and it was a very friendly fish that seemed to really enjoy the petting... like a dog would... which is maybe why Nolan called the fish a dog... and barked at it.

other vocabulary news. you would expect "tofu" to be said so soon by our son. and "off" is becoming a favorite word with many uses. i can't wait until he learns no.

that bus was very controversial and much coveted.

nolan seems to be making a play for domination over benjamin in that photo, which perhaps was why benjamin didn't challenge nolan's temporary monopoly over the sausage dog a few days later.
