ode to grandma

i have so many cute pictures from the weekend with grandma it's definitely not fair to grumpa who was equally adored and enjoyed by Nolan. they got up to Wisconsin pronto for maximum weekend enjoyment. we had a full course Thanksgiving meal with a tofurkey, acorn squash stuffed with an apple curry compote, a stuffing recipe from my Mimi made with Wisconsin cranberries, cheesy apples courtesy of my Grandmother Ruth, a mushroom barley soup AND no Thanksgiving meal is complete without dahl. (???) oh yeah, and pumpkin pie. don't forget salad, John never lets a meal go by without salad. i've got to hide from Nolan my distaste for salad at every meal somehow. for a while, John was making salad for lunch and dinner and i became quite sick of it.

we went to the art museum the next day and while John was walking around with Nolan (who needed a nap) i was supposed to be enjoying myself but i kept wondering what Nolan was doing... turns out they were scouting for dogs in artwork and John was quite surprised i didn't hear Nolan going "dah, dah, dah" throughout the museum. it seems that Nolan plays with his inflections on the word dog. he keeps saying it until it's just about perfect. it'll start with da, then dow, once it was da-ig... very Southern. the "g" is still rather imaginary.

we also went to an old movie palace for a movie poster show and that's where i caught Nolan pushing his stroller with grandma. he loves pushing things. the vacuum cleaner, his toy lawn mower and he's learning to push the dogs out of his way. it's push or be pushed and knocked over with the dogs.

ah, the double car grip. the other morning Nolan was playing in our bedroom as i tried to sleep some more and he stealthily surprised me with a car in the mouth. i will cherish my busted lip i tell myself. thankfully most of the damage is inside my lip and now all better.
